The AZ-AiRE program in conjunction with the National Institute of Health is looking for qualified candidates for the 2022/2023 cohort. AZ-Aire PRIDE will provide advanced training in an interprofessional environment to qualified candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical sciences and are committed to addressing respiratory and related disparities through impactful research. Led by an extraordinary team of researchers, clinicians, and faculty, AZ-PRIDE mentees will receive training that facilitates successful team sciences, career development, and funding for a small research project.

What?

An all-expenses-paid research career-advancing opportunity supported by NHLBI. Nine sites with mentored research training programs address difficulties in establishing independent research and in negotiating academic ranks. The desired outcome is to improve recruitment and retention of faculty from disabled or underrepresented groups in heart, lung, blood, and sleep studies.

Who?

U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is a junior faculty member holding a doctoral degree, such as a PhD, MD, DO, DVM, or a transitioning post -doctorate trainee, and is from a group that is underrepresented in the biomedical or health sciences. A successful applicant also must have a research focus that is centered on heart, lung, blood or sleep (HLBS) disorders, involving various methods such as health disparities or sleep disorders or other approaches.

  • Letter of support from Department Chair allowing trainee to fully participate, i.e.,
  • 5% protected effort throughout the program
  • 33% effort during the summer months
  • Access to institutional resources for preparing grant applications
